Children's offers two main conferences each year designed to meet the needs of health care professionals who work with children including pediatricians, family practice physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Other specialized conferences are offered throughout the year. Each fall, we offer Practical Pediatrics with content that is helpful to those working in a clinic setting. Each spring, our Pediatric Update conference focuses on mental health. 

4th Annual Nursing Professional Development Conference

The professional development council invites nurses and Clinical Support Personnel at Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota to the 4th Annual Nursing Professional Development Conference: Surviving Sepsis. Attend this conference to learn more about the pathophysiology of sepsis, identify signs and symptoms for early recognition, and discuss ways to professionally and assertively communicate concerns with the health care team. 7th Annual Pediatric pain master class

June 7-13, 2014

The Pediatric Pain Master Class offers state-of-the-art education in pain management for the pediatric patient from a holistic and interdisciplinary perspective. The program covers pharmacological, medical, psychosocial and integrative therapies in the management of children’s acute, procedural and complex/chronic pain. Pain assessment and management of somatic, visceral, neuropathic, psychosocial and spiritual pain, as well as end-of-life management of pain and distressing symptoms will be explored in depth.

The Master Class is primarily designed for physicians and advanced practice nurses to develop their expertise in the field of pain management in an interactive seminar format. However, other disciplines are welcome.

Online Medical Training Academy

Online Medical Training Academy is a rigorous set of online modules to prepare medical providers in correctly identifying and diagnosing child physical and sexual abuse. This training will provide a thorough review of nationally recognized Guidelines for Medical Care of Children Who may have been Sexually Abused(Adams et al, 2007). Topics to be covered include; behavioral and physical indicators of sexual abuse, role of the medical provider, pertinent review of literature, peer review principles and practices, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), abusive head trauma, skeletal injuries, cutaneous injuries and neglect and failure to thrive.

Pediatric Integrative Medicine Master Class: Advanced Pain and Symptom Management

Sept. 21-26, 2014

The Pediatric Integrative Medicine Master Class offers state-of-the-art education in the holistic, non-pharmacological management of common symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, depression and anxiety particularly as they are experienced by children and teens with cancer, life-limiting conditions, chronic pain, and those in palliative care or hospice situations. Participants will gain knowledge and experience with a variety of modalities including imagery, biofeedback, meditation, acupressure, aromatherapy, massage, music, storytelling, and energy therapies. Additional topics will include practical discussions of ethics, legal issues, business and administrative aspects of integrative care, care coordination and self-care for the practitioner.

The Master Class is primarily designed for physicians and advanced practice nurses to develop their expertise in the field of pediatric integrative medicine. Other disciplines are welcome.

Children's Speakers Bureau is a professional resource for up-to-date, practical information for physicians, nurses, and medical staff. Educational presentations are available at no cost and on a wide variety of pediatric topics.

Children's offers continuing medical education opportunities to fit your needs. We offer Grand Rounds electronically so you can view a presentation and get a certificate of attendance -- all online. You may also attend weekly Grand Rounds in person at Children's - St. Paul or via webstream in Minneapolis on Thursday mornings.
